Who or what is Slinkachu?
Slinkachu ( 39 years old, real name Stuart Pantoll) is a London-based artist who creates small-scale Street Art installations and photographs them. Slinkachu is not just a person, is a style of art.
He creates all these small characters and puts them in different postures, then takes pictures of them. The photographs seem to have a very different style than the others, that's why these kind of pictures are very appreciated. This style of art began when Slinkachu stared a project called ''The little people project'' in 2006. |
For example, this photo shows the second life of a little hero. The depth of field makes this photo great. The brightness is perfect in combination with the white balance. |
This photo shows a little family. I feel like this photo is nice because it shows the simple life of 3 people. The idea of the cap being something to sit on (like a chair) is great. It fits perfectly into the photo. |
Other artists that are working on the same project:
Isaac Cordal
Isaac Cordal is a Spanish Galician artist whose work involves sculpture and photography in the urban environment.
He lives in Brussels and Galicia.
Isaac Cordal is another artist that contributes to the project "Little People", just like Slinkachu does.
He is taking photographs of figurines doing actions.
Most of the photos have a meaning behind them.

Some of Isaac's work:
I really like the first 2 photos because they have a tough meaning behind them.
The first photo in my opinion has the meaning that technology is ''killing people''.
The second photo in my opinion has the meaning that the people are destroying the nature and there is not much of it left.

Christopher Boffoli
Christopher Boffoli is a fine art photographer, photojournalist, independent filmmaker, and journalist based in Seattle.
He is best known for his "Big Appetites" photographs series, in which tiny, detailed human figures pose in real food environments.
Christopher Boffoli is another artist that contributes to the project "Little People", just like Slinkachu or Isaac Cordal does, but a bit different.
He also includes food in the combination with the figurines, and It makes it weird but beautiful.
Some of Christopher's work:
I really like the first 2 photos, because:
The first one shows how creative the artist really is.
He uses a cake as a ramp, and I think that's really interesting.
The second photo shows how a man digs into candy.
It's really creative and colourful.

My first Slinkachu shoot
This photoshoot was taking place in the classroom.
I tested some thing so I can understand how the camera reacts to this kind of close-ups.
The shoot wasn't really what I expected because I realized after the shoot that my photos were a bit under exposed.

I feel like this is my worst photo because it's under exposed, and nothing can be seen.
|
This is my best photo from this shoot, because it has a better brightness than the other ones, and it has many objects in it that are on focus.
But, I don't really like the thing that I tilted the camera a bit, It looks weird. |
Second shoot
This photo shoot took place in the art room.
I wanted to take photographs of as many figurines as I could.
The photoshoot turned out to be fine but not perfect.

The photoshoot turned out to be fine but not perfect.
In my opinion, this is my worst photo I took this shoot.
First, because of the tilted position that I took the photo from, it doesn't really look that nice as I thought it will be. Another reason for this being the worst picture from this shoot is because the camera didn't focus on both of the subjects. |
In my opinion, this is the best photo I took out of this shoot.
I really like it, first of all because of the focus, brightness and clearness. The colours are very bright, and all the subjects are on focus. Also, I didn't expect it to be good but it actually turned out just fine, even tough I was just playing around with the figurines. |
Third shoot
Plan:
For this shoot, I wanna take some photos of figurines walking through ''a jungle''
The shoot will take place in the classroom or artroom
The props I need are some figurines and nature props(grass, dirt etc. or paper with grass printed on it)
The story behind the photos will be that the little people got lost in a jungle and they are searching their way out, but they meet some problems in their journey.

<< I think this is my best photo from this shoot, because the big lego characters are blurred out and the camera is focused on the figurines. I was holding the camera a bit upwards behind the lego characters, so It made them look like they are way bigger and stronger than the figurines. I also arranged the figurines to seem like they are trying to run from the giant pirates. |
Fourth Shoot
Plan:
For this shoot, I want to take photos of the same figurines but on different backgrounds (papers with textures, objects etc.)
The location will be in the art room.
The props I need are figurines and some paper backgrounds.
The ''story'' will be that the figurines are travelling to different places.
Attempt #2
I think this is my worst photo, because the ground can be seen and It doesn't look very realistic.
Also, I didn't focus the camera properly, so it looks blurry.
The settings are not well made.

I think this is my best photo because It look realistic.
The man in the background looks like he's looking at the figurine, and I think it gives a plus.
Also, I like that I made the figurine really look like he's staying on the ground.

Fifth Shoot:
Plan:
This shoot I want to take pictures of figurines that are taking part in a rally event.
For this, I'm gonna need a background with a rally car and 2 figurines, the driver and co-driver.
I will take the shoot in the art room.

I think that this is my worst photo, because the figurines are in a bad position, and this makes the photo look fake, also the photo is under exposed.
I think this is my best photo, because It looks like the car is right behind the lego figurines.
Also, the lego figurines are in a proper position, this makes it look really good and realistic.
The only thing that I hate about this photo is that It's a bit under exposed.

Sixth shoot:
Plan:
This shoot, I want to take photos of figurines that look like they are painting something, without using any backgrounds.
The shoot will take place in the art room.
The props I need will be 1 or 2 figurines and paper, which the figurine will draw on.

I think that this is my worst photo because the figurine is blurred out, and the photo is taken from too far away.
I think that this is my best photo because it has a nice depth of field and it shows the main objects, such as the model that the figurine is drawing, the figurine and the painting.
Seventh shoot
Plan: This shoot I will try to improve my photographs by making them look more realistic, I will need realistic props like toy cars, the shoot will take place just outside the school.
I think this is my worst photo because it's blurry, and it doesn't really show any story.
I think this is my best photo, because I like the depth of field, the zoom is fine and it shows the whole incident, and that gives a story to the photo.
Project Evaluation
The project went fine. I liked that every shoot I learned something new, and I really felt like I was making progress by every picture I took.
I didn't like that sometimes I just ran out of ideas, so I had to do something basic or inspire from others.
It wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. The only difficult part was getting ideas, so I could improve my shoots.
I enjoyed it, because I learned a bit more about the camera settings.
